Let’s Learn Science: The Art of Listening
Read to Your Child
Bing and Bong arrive at a friend's house on the Tiny Planet of Sound. They ring the doorbell at the front entrance, but they hear the back door shutting. Befuddled, the pair trot around to the back and pulls a long cord that chimes. Now, they hear the front door slam shut. They try ringing at both doors again but their Flocker friend doesn’t know which doorbell is which!
Bing and Bong split up, one at each door. Finally, the Flocker finds one of them and lets them in. Once inside, Bing and Bong help their friend figure out which doorbell is which. But the poor Flocker is still confused, when Bing's alarm sounds, the Flocker thinks its the phone and then thinks it’s the microwave! Bing let’s him know, that it’s just his watch.
Now it’s your turn to use your ears!
You Will Learn...
- How to listen carefully.
- How to know what something is by just listening.
Bing kindly tries to teach the Flocker the source of sounds by pointing to the doorbells and to his watch, and directs Bong to cover the other door when they ring to get in. Bing’s kind relationships are a good model for children. You can bring kindness to your child’s attention by asking how each character shows kindness, and whether anyone is mean.
- Critical thinking
